Title: Chapter - 2

The echo of his words lingered in my mind like a haunting melody I couldn't escape. "I haven't given up yet." I had convinced myself that I was over him, that the past was behind me. But now, standing at my desk, surrounded by the hum of office life, I felt that familiar knot of anxiety tightening in my stomach.

As the clock ticked slowly towards the end of the day, I tried to focus on my work, but every glance at the door sent my heart racing. What was he doing? Why did he have to be the new intern? I thought I had left him behind in high school, along with the memories of my younger self who had been so naïve, so easily swayed by his charm.

Finally, as the day drew to a close, I gathered my things and prepared to leave. Just as I reached the elevator, I heard a voice call out. "Maya! Wait!"

I turned, half-expecting to see someone else, but it was him—Ethan. He was leaning against the wall, looking casual in his tailored suit, but I could see the determination in his eyes.

“We need to talk,” he said, his voice steady.

“I don’t think there’s anything to talk about,” I replied, trying to keep my tone dismissive, but my heart raced as he stepped closer.

“Just hear me out. I know how you feel about me, and I’m not here to make things difficult. I just want a chance to explain.”

“Explain what?” I snapped, crossing my arms defensively. “How you broke my heart? How you left without a word? You think I want to relive that?”

He looked taken aback, and for a moment, I saw a flicker of regret cross his face. “I didn’t know how to handle it back then. I was young and stupid. But I’ve changed, Maya. I promise I have.”

I scoffed, rolling my eyes. “You think a few years and a fancy suit can erase the past? You’re still the same Ethan I remember, just with more charm and better hair.”

“Is that really how you see me?” he asked, his voice dropping to an earnest tone. “Because I’ve spent years trying to be someone worthy of you. I want to show you I’m not that guy anymore.”

Before I could respond, the elevator dinged, and the doors slid open. I hesitated, torn between wanting to walk away and the part of me that yearned for closure. “You have five minutes,” I said finally, stepping into the elevator. Ethan followed, and I pressed the button for the ground floor.

As we descended, the silence was thick, filled with unspoken words. The elevator stopped, and a couple of my coworkers stepped in. I felt exposed, as if they could sense the tension between us. After a brief exchange of pleasantries, they exited, and we were alone again, the doors sliding shut behind them.

“Listen,” I began, my voice barely above a whisper, “I don’t know what you expect from me. I’ve moved on.”

Ethan stepped closer, his gaze intense. “But have you really? Or are you just pretending to be okay? I can see it in your eyes, Maya. You’re still hurt.”

The honesty in his tone struck me. “It’s complicated,” I admitted, feeling my defenses waver. “You don’t know what it was like for me after you left.”

“Then let me in,” he urged, his eyes searching mine. “Let me show you that I can be the person you deserve. Don’t shut me out before we even begin.”

I took a deep breath, my heart racing. “You have no idea how hard it is for me to trust you again.”

“Then let’s take it slow. One step at a time,” he suggested, his voice softer now. “Just give me a chance please i promise you i have changed"

Ethan even if you have i don't care we are both now in different world and i don't the past repeating itself again

I don't care how you feel about me and the thing about not getting over you well i would make sure i get over with you besides i don't have that much feeling for you its just you are a little attractive

Thanks by the Ethan for wasting my precious time on this nonsense i hope we don't talk or meet each other besides work
